PONDA: A 45-year-old man was found dead inside his locked house at Avanti Nagar, Tisk, Usgao, on the night of January 14, 2026, after neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the premises.
According to police, at around 9.43 pm, a phone call was received from Ramnath Dangui, informing authorities about a strong bad odour coming from the house of Johnson Joseph, who was living alone. Upon visiting the spot and conducting an enquiry, police found that the house had been locked from the inside for the past two days.
With the assistance of the Ponda Fire Brigade, the main door of the house was opened, following which the dead body of Johnson Joseph was found lying on a mat inside the house. The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition.
Police contacted the deceased’s wife, Sunita Tangrala, who arrived at the spot and informed officials that her husband was suffering from epileptic fits and was living alone at the time.
An inquest panchanama was conducted and the body was referred for post-mortem examination. The police surgeon, after conducting the autopsy, stated that due to the advanced stage of decomposition, the cause of death could not be ascertained. Viscera has been preserved and sent for chemical analysis.
After completion of formalities, the body was handed over to the family for final religious rites. Further enquiry in the matter is being conducted by PSI Bansal Naik of Ponda Police Station.
