SANGOLDA: A 58-year-old man died after accidentally falling into a septic tank behind his house on Thursday morning.
Rosario Mascarenhas was reported missing by family members who grew concerned after he was not seen around the home.
During their search, they discovered the septic tank cover was broken and saw a red shirt inside, prompting them to suspect he had fallen in.
The family alerted the Saligao police station immediately.
A police team led by PSI Akshay Phatarpekar arrived at the scene and notified the Pilerne fire station.
Firefighters, led by Pilerne Fire Station Officer Sunny Faide, responded promptly and removed water from the septic tank.
Mascarenhas’s body was recovered and taken to Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim for an autopsy, which is scheduled for Friday.
The Saligao police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
