PORVORIM: Porvorim Police arrested a 46-year-old man from Karnataka for allegedly depositing counterfeit currency notes into a Cash Deposit Machine (CDM) of a bank at Alto Porvorim.
According to police, the offence was registered at Porvorim Police Station under Crime No. 22/2026 based on a complaint filed by Vikas Jarial, Branch Manager of HDFC Bank Limited, Alto Porvorim. The complaint stated that on March 5, 2026, in the morning, the accused, identified as Maibuba D. Yalagi, a resident of Yalawar village in Bijapur district of Karnataka, deposited counterfeit ₹500 notes amounting to ₹3,500 into the bank’s CDM by projecting them as genuine currency into his own account. The notes reportedly had common serial numbers.
During investigation, police traced the accused to Karnataka. A team from Porvorim Police Station comprising PSI Sachin Shirodkar, PC Bhikaji Parab, PC Nitesh Gawade and PC Jayesh Gadekar was deputed to Karnataka under the supervision of PI Rahul T. Parab, SDPO Porvorim Vishvesh Karpe and SP (North) Harishchandra Madkaikar.
With assistance from local police, the team apprehended the accused and brought him to Porvorim Police Station, Goa. He was subsequently produced before the JMFC Court in Mapusa, which remanded him to four days of police custody. Further investigation is in progress.
