PORVORIM: An offence has been registered at Porvorim Police Station against a 46-year-old man for allegedly depositing counterfeit currency notes at a bank in Porvorim.
According to police, the case was registered on March 20, 2026, at 2:04 pm based on a complaint filed by Vikas Jarial, Branch Manager of HDFC Bank, located at Sukan Building, NH-17, Alto Porvorim.
The accused, identified as Maibuba D Yalagi, a resident of Yalawar in Bijapur, Karnataka, reportedly deposited seven fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, amounting to Rs 3,500, into a cash deposit machine at the bank on March 5, 2026, at around 10:20 am. The notes allegedly bore a common serial number.
Police said the accused deposited the counterfeit notes into his bank account maintained at HDFC Bank in Bagewadi, Karnataka, by presenting them as genuine currency.
An offence of counterfeiting has been registered, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Sachin Shirodkar.
