ANJUNA: Police registered a gambling case on Monday evening after a man was allegedly caught accepting money bets from the public near the Great Mango Tree restaurant at Vagator.
According to Anjuna Police, the offence was registered on November 17 at 8:25 pm under Cr No. 149/2025 for an offence under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.
HC Rajan Laximan Patil, who filed the state complaint, stated that between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm, the accused — Sofik Ikbal, 34, a native of Dhubri, Assam, presently residing at Zorwado, Anjuna — was caught red-handed while conducting gambling activities in an open public place.
Police said they seized ₹52,000 in cash along with other gambling articles from his possession. The accused was arrested at 8:25 pm and later released on the same night at 9:25 pm.
Further investigation is being carried out by HC Rajan Patil of Anjuna Police Station.
