PANAJI: The Panaji Police have arrested a man for allegedly conducting illegal gambling activities by accepting cash bets on numerical digital numbers in a public place on Wednesday night.
According to police reports, Panaji Police Station registered Crime No. 154/2025 under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act upon the complaint of Head Constable Vishant P. Mahale (HC 5855).
At around 9:45 p.m. on November 6, near the Paulo Travels Office in Panaji, the accused — identified as Mohana Shettigar, son of Nagappa Shettigar, and a resident of Bairo Alto, Fondvem, Ribandar, originally from Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka — was caught red-handed accepting money bets on numerical digital numbers, considered a game of chance, from members of the public.
Police seized cash amounting to ₹1,480 in various denominations, along with other gambling materials, from the accused’s possession.
Shettigar was arrested at 11:21 p.m. and later released at 11:42 p.m. on the same day.
Further investigation is being carried out by HC Vishant P. Mahale of the Panaji Police Station.
