PANAJI: Goa police arrested a man for allegedly raping a woman under the false promise of marriage at a guest house in Thivim earlier this year.
According to police, the accused, identified as Bharat Jangale of Swardhati, near Nanora, North Goa, was arrested at 5:14 am on August 13 by PSI Sunny Subhash Kanekar of Colvale Police Station.
The case originated when a woman from Sawantwadi, Maharashtra, approached Bicholim Police Station late on August 12 along with her child, alleging that on April 22, 2025, at around 10:30 pm, Jangale deceitfully engaged in sexual intercourse with her on multiple occasions under the false pretext of marriage. The alleged incident took place at D’Souza Guest House, Thivim, in the jurisdiction of Colvale Police Station.
Bicholim Police registered a Zero FIR (No. 0-2/2025) under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and transferred it to Colvale Police Station for jurisdictional action. Colvale Police subsequently registered a regular FIR (No. 52/2025) and placed the accused under arrest.
Investigation is in progress under the supervision of senior officers.
