VASCO: Vasco Police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly vandalising a statue of St. Anthony at a chapel in New Vaddem and stealing cash from the premises in the early hours of December 10.
The case was registered following a complaint by Francisco Gonsalves, resident of New Vaddem, who reported that around 1.15 am, an unknown male, aged between 30 and 35 years, damaged the statue at St. Anthony Chapel, causing losses estimated at ₹1 lakh, and stole approximately ₹1,000 kept in the chapel.
Based on the complainant’s description and CCTV footage, police identified and interrogated the suspect, Navneet Singh, a resident of New Vaddem and originally from Punjab. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to vandalising the statue and committing theft, claiming he acted under the influence of alcohol.
The accused has been placed under arrest, and further investigation is being conducted by PSI Mayur Sawant of Vasco Police Station.
