VALPOI: Valpoi Police have arrested a 36-year-old man after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting illegal bets near Datta Mandir, Pali, Thane in Sattari.
According to police, the accused Sandesh Gaonkar (36), resident of Hivrem Thane, Sattari, was found on September 18, 2025, around 7.55 pm, accepting bets on numerical figures from members of the public and issuing them paper slips as receipts.
During the raid, police recovered ₹350 in cash, two paper slips, a carbon piece and a ball pen from his possession.
Police said the accused was placed under arrest after following due procedure and Supreme Court guidelines on arrest, with intimation given to his friend.
Further investigation is being conducted by HC Sandesh Thakur of Valpoi Police Station.
