TUEM: Pernem Police arrested a 28-year-old man on Monday night for illegal possession of ganja worth approximately ₹70,000 during a narcotics raid near the Garbage Treatment Plant in Tuem.
As per a complaint lodged by PSI Prathmesh Parsekar, the raid was conducted between 7:45 pm and 9:30 pm on June 16. The accused, identified as Shivanand Sham Gawade, a resident of Chawdewada, Parcem, was caught red-handed in possession of 732 grams of a greenish dried substance with flowering tops, seeds, and stalks — suspected to be ganja.
The narcotics were reportedly concealed in the dickey of a TVS Jupiter scooter bearing registration number GA-11-F-7769. Both the suspected contraband and the vehicle were seized under a panchanama, following all mandatory procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police confirmed that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
