Ponda: Ponda Police have registered a case after a man was injured due to the accidental firing of an illegally possessed country-made firearm at Borim, Ponda.
According to police, the case was registered on the basis of a state complaint filed by PSI Krishna Gawas of Ponda Police Station. The incident occurred on February 8, 2026, between 10.30 pm and 11 pm at Tishem, Borim, Ponda.
Police said the accused, identified as Pankaj Naik, a resident of Tishem, Borim, was found to have illegally possessed and handled a 12-bore single-barrel country-made firearm.
It is alleged that the accused kept the firearm at his residence without taking proper care and precaution, thereby endangering life and personal safety.
During cleaning of the firearm, it reportedly slipped and fell on the floor, resulting in an accidental discharge. The bullet struck the accused on his left thigh, causing injuries.
The injured accused was provided medical treatment. Further investigation in the case is being carried out by PSI Chetan Naik of Ponda Police Station.
