BAMBOLIM: A 57-year-old man who was injured in a motor vehicle accident at Merces earlier this month succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim.
According to police, information was received on January 15, 2026, at around 11.57 am from the Control Point, GMC Bambolim, stating that the patient, Nitesh Shirodkar (57), son of Padmanab Shirodkar and resident of H. No. 209, behind Hanuman Temple, Verem, Bardez, expired while undergoing treatment in ICU Ward No. 123. The case was registered as MLC No. 26/309.
Further inquiry revealed that on January 10, 2026, prior to 10.40 pm, police had received information from GMC Bambolim that the same person was brought to the hospital by 108 ambulance as a case of a motor vehicle accident that occurred near Apna Ghar, Merces.
Accordingly, a motor vehicle accident case bearing No. 11/2026 dated January 10, 2026, was registered. As the incident was reported to be a self-accident, the matter was discussed with the Police Inspector of Old Goa Police Station. Upon his direction, an Unnatural Death (UD) case No. 04/2026 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been registered. Further inquiry in the matter is in progress.
