New Delhi: In a significant operation on Sunday night, a joint team of the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Haryana Special Task Force (STF) thwarted a major terror plot targeting the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Abdul Rehman from Faizabad, was apprehended in Faridabad, Haryana. Rehman, who operated a meat shop and drove an auto-rickshaw, allegedly used these roles as part of his cover identity. Sources revealed that he had been receiving training from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), highlighting a sophisticated level of planning and coordination.
Rehman’s arrest followed a detailed reconnaissance of the Ram Temple, where he gathered information that was shared with ISI handlers. His plan involved meeting a handler in Faridabad to receive two hand grenades, which he intended to use in the attack. However, security agencies acted swiftly based on central intelligence inputs, leading to his capture and the recovery of the grenades. The explosives were defused, and Rehman was remanded to police custody for 10 days.
The operation underscores the ongoing threat of terrorism and the role of foreign intelligence agencies in orchestrating such plots. Rehman’s links to several Islamic assemblies and his alleged connections to ISI suggest a broader network of terror operatives. The case is under active investigation, with authorities probing potential connections to other terror cells.
