New Delhi: An elderly man threw a shoe at Chief Justice of India BR Gavai inside the Supreme Court this morning, though it did not reach the bench. The man was immediately taken into custody by security personnel, and the hearing continued without disruption.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred as the Chief Justice began hearing the first case of the day. The man shouted slogans saying, “India won’t tolerate Sanatan’s insult,” before hurling the shoe toward the bench.
Reports indicate that the individual, identified as Kishore Rakesh, held a proximity card typically issued to lawyers and clerks of the court. His motives for targeting the Chief Justice are under investigation, and security agencies are questioning him.
Chief Justice Gavai remained composed throughout the incident, reportedly telling the courtroom, “I am the last person to be affected by such things,” before continuing the proceedings.
