Arambol: The Mandrem Police Station registered an offence under Crime No. 57/2025, invoking Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, following a narcotics raid conducted on the night of 27 May.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by PSI Jaydeep Palyekar conducted a raid between 8:00 PM and 10:30 PM at the Arambol Fish Market in Pernem. During the operation, the team apprehended 33-year-old Afsal Puthiyaveettil, a native of Chavakkad, Thrissur in Kerala, currently residing at Sea Waves Guest House in Morjim, Goa.
Police seized 49.78 grams of greenish fruiting tops and buds, suspected to be hydroponic ganja, estimated to be worth ₹5,00,000 in the illicit market. A mobile phone (Samsung Galaxy A12) with dual SIM cards (Jio: 9188449323, Airtel: 8668165664) was also recovered from the accused.
Afsal was arrested at 11:45 PM after compliance with all arrest procedures and Supreme Court guidelines. His family was informed of the arrest.
