VASCO: Mangor hill-Vasco locals and the Shree Ayyappa temple committee members condemned the blocking of road access to the temple. Committee members demand to clear the blockage allegedly done by the Navy.
On Tuesday morning, locals and devotees of Shree Ayyappa temple got furious after the Navy allegedly blocked residents’ access road near the temple.
Locals, along with the temple committee, protested near Ayyappa temple, demanding that the Navy remove the blockage immediately.
Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar and South Goa Collector Ruchika Katyal arrived at the spot after learning about the issue and inspected the site.
Later, Salkar said that it is wrong for any central government agency to blatantly undertake any work without taking the locals and stakeholders into confidence.
He also said that if the people’s demands are not met and if efforts are made to corner the people, it is bound to happen that these people will agitate.
Salkar also assured to put forth this issue before Chief Minister and South Goa Collector Ruchika Katyal and hoped that the issue would be sorted out.
Shree Ayyappa temple chairman U. Nair, president Shashindra Nair and treasurer demanded that the Navy immediately open the access of the locals and the devotees since the people have been using this road access for the past several decades.
Local residents Roy D’Souza and Advocate Phiroze Loran also stated that the blocked road is mentioned in the Outline Development Plan(ODP) that is allegedly blocked by the Navy from both sides by the gates, which is incorrect and is a matter of great inconvenience to the residents.
