Candolim::An 18-year-old youth from Manipur lost his life after being swept away by rough sea currents at Candolim beach in the early hours of Monday.
The incident occurred before lifeguards began their daily patrol at 7:00 am.
According to sources, the youth had reportedly entered the sea around 6:15 am in an intoxicated state, despite repeated warnings from his friends. The sea was rough due to ongoing monsoon conditions.
At around 7:00 am, a beachgoer spotted a body lying on the shoreline and alerted a Drishti Marine lifesaver. The lifesaver immediately informed the nearby tower and rushed to the spot. Police and medical personnel, who had already been informed of the situation by the youth’s friends, arrived shortly after.
Drishti Marine has once again urged the public to strictly avoid entering the sea during the monsoon season, reiterating that swimming is prohibited due to dangerously rough and unpredictable currents, especially during unsupervised hours.
Authorities have cautioned beachgoers to adhere to monsoon safety protocols and avoid venturing into the water under any circumstances.
