PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that Manohar International Airport at Mopa handled 87 charter flight operations from January 2023 till May 2024.
“Manohar International Airport at Mopa commenced its Domestic Commercial operation on 5th January 2023, while the International operation started on 21st July 2023. The number of Chartered flights that arrived in Goa at Manohar International Airport from January 2023 till May 2024 is 87,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that information pertaining to the Goa International Airport Dabolim is not maintained by the Directorate of Civil Aviation, the said Airport is operated by the Airport Authority of India.
Mopa airport terminal building was constructed with a shell and core capacity for 8 million passengers a year.
However, facilities like check-in counters, baggage x-ray machines, and baggage handling systems were installed to handle 4.4 million passengers as per the phase I plan.
These facilities have come under strain with traffic growth and forced the airport management to fast-track its plans.
Expansion work is underway and is expected to be completed before the start of the winter season 2024.
