PANAJI: India’s veteran filmmaker Rakesh Sharma will launch the event. It would be followed by a free dialogue with Goa’s’ young filmmakers Barkha Naik and Suyash Kamat. They would be interviewed by Uday Chari, Goa’s famous Radio Jocky of Big FM.
Episode 0.1 of the series will be held on Thursday, 19th December at ManoSobha Kalaghar at Agas in Loliem village of Canacona taluka. It would begin at 4 pm and would conclude with the screening of award-winning short films; ‘Salt’ by Barkha Naik and ‘Sadabahar’ by Suyash Kamat.
Barkha Naik is the daughter of Agas while Suyash Kamat is the grandson of Borus, both the vaddos of Loliem village.
Sixty-year-old Rakesh Sharma, who began his career as a TV journalist and then assisted Shyam Benegal in making famous TV serial ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’ (Discovery of India), has several documentaries to his credit produced for Doordarshan, Tourism Ministry and other production houses. The popular among them include ‘Ringmasters’, ‘Beaches of India’, ‘Aftershocks’ and ‘Final Solution’. He has also headed many mainstream TV channels and has produced biopics of famous personalities in India. He has won many national and international awards for his films.
Barkha Naik, a student of the Film & TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague of the Czech Republic, has recently won a Silver Conch for her film ‘Salt’ at the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). It was earlier selected among the top ten films at the nationwide Take Ten contest of Netflix. Earlier, she assisted India’s eminent documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan.
Suyash Kamat, who is pursuing postgraduation at Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute in Kolkata, was also among India’s top ten filmmakers at the Take Ten contest of Netflix. Including a Japanese short film ‘Koyoto’, he has directed and shot a diverse range of short fiction and non-fiction films. He was also the Director’s Assistant and second unit cinematographer to Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine as Light’, which became India’s first film to win a prestigious Grand Prix award at the world’s biggest Cannes Film Festival in France.
Uday Chari has been Goa’s eminent Radio Jockey for the last 25 years and has also made around 10 short films. He is also an eminent painter and has participated in many state and national-level painting exhibitions.
The programme is open for all, especially those interested in filmmaking including acting, singing, dancing, choreography, set designing, cinematography, editing, sound recording and all other aspects of filmmaking.
