Mapusa: The body of a 50-year-old man was found floating in the Chapora river at Revora in Bardez on Sunday night.
According to police, the incident came to light on March 8 at around 10:24 pm after the Police Control Room (PCR) in Panaji received a call informing that a male body was seen floating in the Chapora river at Revora.
Police from Colvale police station rushed to the spot and found the body floating near the river bank. Personnel from the Mapusa Fire Station later fished out the body from the river.
The deceased was identified as Shrikant Redkar (50), a resident of H. No. 131, Mazil Waddo, Revora, Bardez. His identity was confirmed by his brother Suryakant Redkar.
Police conducted the scene of occurrence panchanama and inquest over the body before sending it for postmortem examination.
Dr Sreyas Rajendra Naik of Goa Medical College conducted the postmortem and opined that the cause of death was asphyxia as a result of drowning, while reserving the final opinion pending the chemical analysis of viscera.
After completion of formalities, the body was handed over to the deceased’s brother for final rites.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Dattaraj Rane of Colvale police station.
