Mapusa: The Mapusa Advocates Forum has strongly condemned the physical assault on advocate Sadanand Vaingankar, stating that the incident is not just a criminal act but an attack on the justice system and the legal fraternity.
In a statement, the forum said the assault on Adv. Vaingankar allegedly took place while he was performing his professional duties and in the presence of state functionaries and police personnel. The matter is currently under investigation by Dhargal Police Station.
The forum emphasised that advocates are officers of the court and any attack on a lawyer undermines the functioning of the justice system.
The Mapusa Advocates Forum has demanded an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident and called for proactive measures to ensure the safety of the legal fraternity. The forum also urged the government to consider special legislation to protect advocates and the legal community.
Expressing solidarity, the forum wished Adv. Vaingankar a speedy recovery.
