MAPUSA:
Mapusa Advocates have strongly condemned State Administration for failure to handle the COVID19 pandemic.
In a strong worded letter to CM Dr Prsamod Sawant, the advocates express displeasure and anguish on the loss of lives in the state.
The advocates have demanded immediate lockdown.
“Needless to mention that Covid-19 Pandemic is already been declared as National Disaster as per the Disaster Management Act. Your Good Offices are responsible under The State Disaster Management Authority not only to implement the National Plan but also to lay down policies and plans for Disaster Management in the State,” said Adv Shridhar Kamat in the letter.
He further said that it is rather astonishing and shameful that Goa’s rate of Infection is the highest in the Country and death rate is soaring at over 50 persons per day for population of just about 15 lakhs which is rated as one of the worst in Asia.
“This being so although the State of Goa is a small state and a non-industrial state with the highly literate populace showing immense sense of responsibility and best conduct throughout the Pandemic. It takes us no hesitation to say that the State Disaster Management has failed or has been proved to be inadequate,” he said.
Further, he added, “We are perturbed by hearing and experiencing deaths of our colleagues, relatives, friends and our Goenkars due to Covid-19 and yet it transpires that the Govt is not in favour of a complete lockdown and preference is given to economic activity over and above the lives of the people.”
The Advocates said that being concerned about the lives of our colleagues, relatives including those of our elected representatives and their families as well and in the greater interest of humanity, urge to you that your Good Offices implement immediate complete lockdown in the State of Goa for the next 10-15 days to save and protect the lives of the people of this peaceful state.
“If not, a day may come when we all will be willing for a lockdown but lockdown may also not save us,” the advocates said.
