MAPUSA: A 28-year-old scooter rider lost his life in a tragic road accident at Dattawadi, Mapusa, in the early hours of Friday after allegedly crashing into the open door of a parked car.
The incident occurred around 5.30 am when the accused, identified as Suharsh Shekhar Bhartu (38), a resident of Dattawadi, Mapusa, reportedly parked his Punto car (GA-03-Y-1366) on the side of the one-way road leading from Dattawadi to the Maruti Temple without taking proper care and caution. Police said the accused negligently left the right rear door of the car open.
As a result, Bharat Damodar Halki (28), a resident of Peddem, Mapusa, who was riding an Activa scooter (GA-03-AB-4460) towards the Maruti Temple, rammed into the open door. He fell onto the road and sustained serious injuries.
Following the impact, the Activa scooter skidded forward and collided with a Suzuki Avenis scooter (GA-03-BD-2225), ridden by Shyamrao Madhukar Nagvekar (52), with his wife Saarita Shyamrao Nagvekar (49) as the pillion rider. Both residents of Bastora, Bardez, were about to leave the spot when the collision occurred.
Halki was rushed to the District Hospital, Mapusa, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Mapusa Police have registered a case, and further investigation is being carried out by Investigating Officer PSI Ravina Sawtodkar.
