Margao Sports Club got the better of Carmona Sports Club 3-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the 30th Mandopa Cup org by Mandopa Sports Club and played at Mandopa on Monday.
Carmona SC. Missed to score in the 7th minute of play when Ronan Ferrao shot out of target when only the goalkeeper was at his mercy then Margao made a counterattack when Clif Barreto gave a through pass to Edger Noronha who smartly placed the ball in the far corner of the net in the 24th minutes of play and Margao Sports Club remained 1-0 lead at the lemon break.
Changing over Carmona entered the field with renewed ideas and made a move with a combination of Shanon Furtado, Dezwin Dias and Steno Fernandes but Margao’s defence foiled the attempt as Rocky Borges and Alfred Noronha was firm in denying any goal as the match progressed in the third quarter Velton D’Souza of Margao power-packed shot from the outside the box entered the net beating defence and goalkeeper in 34th minutes of play then Ronan Ferrao of Carmona wasted open chance in 40th minutes.
As the match went for the last quarter Margao Sports Club increased their tally through Hanshlum Furtado in the 49th minute of play. In injury time again Carmona Sports Club wasted the scoring opportunities through Darren Estibeiro
Alfred Noronha of Margao Sports Club was awarded man of the match by Damaciano Mascarenhas member of Mandopa SC.
