MARGAO: Madgavkars have reason to celebrate this festive season, as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced that Margao’s renowned Dindi Festival will be accorded the status of a State festival starting this year.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim, where he attended a sports event, Sawant said he would soon hold a meeting with the Dindi Festival organising committee to plan the upcoming celebrations.
“The government will discuss with the committee the kind of assistance and coordination they require from various departments. Based on that, we will finalise the arrangements and extend full support to the festivities from this year onward,” the Chief Minister stated.
Established in 1909 by a group of devotees, the Dindi Festival is among Goa’s oldest and most cherished religious celebrations. The annual event, held at the Hari Mandir Temple in Pajifond, Margao, marked its 115th anniversary last year and continues to draw thousands of devotees and visitors each year.
