Navelim: The BPS State Ranking Veterans Badminton Tournament 2025 witnessed exceptional performances from seasoned shuttlers Marina Albuquerque and Rupchandra Humraskar, who both achieved remarkable triple crowns at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim.
Marina showcased her versatility by clinching three titles the Women’s Singles 35+, Women’s Doubles 35+ (partnering Jayashree Fernandes), and Mixed Doubles 55+ (teaming up with Wilfred Jacques). Rupchandra matched her feat with an equally dominant display, securing victories in Men’s Singles 60+, Men’s Doubles 60+ (with Cholu Gauns), and Mixed Doubles 60+ (alongside Judy Braganza).
Organised by BPS Sports Club in association with the Goa Badminton Association and the Sports Authority of Goa, the tournament featured categories from 35+ to 70+ and served as one of the key selection events for the upcoming Masters Nationals in Jammu.
Several players delivered double-title-winning performances. Darwin Barreto captured the Men’s Doubles 50+ (with Sandip Kanji) and Mixed Doubles 50+ (with Supriya Pai Kuchelkar) crowns. Veteran Cancio Mascarenhas triumphed in Men’s Singles 65+ and Men’s Doubles 65+ (partnering Summerwell Da Gama), while Wilfred Jacques added to his tally with wins in Men’s Singles 55+ and Mixed Doubles 55+ (with Marina Albuquerque).
Kamlesh Kanji also bagged two titles Men’s Doubles 45+ (with Parag Chauhan) and Mixed Doubles 45+ (with Poonam Chauhan). Dr Ankush Patil secured the Men’s Singles 40+ and Men’s Doubles 40+ (with Kunal Sanvordenkar) titles, and Navneet Nasnodkar claimed top honours in both Men’s Singles 35+ and Men’s Doubles 35+ (with Jatinder Singh). Amit Kakkar displayed fine form with victories in Men’s Singles 45+ and Mixed Doubles 40+ (partnering Preetika Kakkar).
In the higher age categories, Tanaji Sawant clinched the Men’s Doubles 70+ (with Pradeep Dhond, who also won the 70+ Singles) and Mixed Doubles 65+ (with Roseline Bunyan) titles. Vineeta Adpaikar excelled in the Women’s Singles 45+ and Women’s Doubles 45+ (with Milagrina Mascarenhas), while Louanne Almeida completed a superb double with wins in Women’s Doubles 40+ (with Rashmi Lobo) and Mixed Doubles 35+ (with Parteek Mahajan).
Other notable winners included Dr Satish Kudchadker (Men’s Singles 70+), Chinmay Fallary and Dhananjay Sirsat (Men’s Doubles 55+), Archana Marya (Women’s Singles 50+), Arnaldo Rodrigues (Men’s Singles 50+), and Dhanya Balakrishnan (Women’s Singles 40+), each displaying fine skill and consistency to capture their respective titles.
