PONDA: Marcaim MLA and Power Minister Sudin Dhavlikar said Goa is ideal for fishing activities, and there are a lot of job opportunities in marine farming as Zuari and Mandovi flow from many villages.
He said in 2002, when Manohar Parrikar was CM, he was the Fisheries Minister and that he, along with Cortalim former MLA late Mathani Saldhana made a successful effort to increase fish production.
Dhavalikar was speaking at one day workshop on “Marine Farming and Society engagement in the coastal state- Goa,” organised by Unnat Bharat and the School of Biological Science and Biotechnology in association with Madkai Grampanchayat at Marcaim. The training on muscle farming was provided during worship.
Marcaim Panchayat Sarpanch Shailendra Panjikar urged the unemployed youths to switch towards Marine farming or fishing activity to overcome unemployment. He said youth prefer government jobs, but he urged them to take Marine farming as the government provides guidance and training programmes. He said Marcaim, like a village, is ideal for fishing and agricultural activities. “Marine Fishing activity is more beneficial than government jobs,” he said.
He said the clams and other fish are famous and one of the prime occupations of locals. In the next few days, the clams season would start.
He thanked the organisers for starting muscle fish farming and guidance workshop at Marcaim.
Organising committee convenors Dr Lata Gawade and Dr Harip Khanapuri, Co-Convenor, besides UBA Members & SBSB Faculty, Goa University and locals were present.
