New Delhi: The auspicious start of Navratri, coupled with the rollout of GST 2.0 reforms, has sparked a surge in automobile sales across India, delighting both customers and car dealers. The new GST rate cuts have significantly reduced prices for passenger and commercial vehicles, prompting buyers to rush to showrooms to take advantage of the lower costs.
Maruti Suzuki reported retail sales likely exceeding 30,000 units on the first day of Navratri, while Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recorded nearly 11,000 dealer billings — its highest single-day performance in the last five years. Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and COO of HMIL, attributed the strong sales to festive sentiment and customer confidence. “As one of the first automobile companies to fully pass on the GST benefits to customers, we are delighted to make their celebrations even more joyful. We anticipate sustained festive demand and remain committed to delivering value and excitement,” he said.
Maruti dealerships reported around 80,000 customer enquiries on Monday, with bookings for small cars rising by 50 percent due to reduced prices. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) confirmed increased footfalls at showrooms nationwide as buyers eagerly purchased their preferred models. Dealers praised the GST reforms for boosting purchasing power and giving a significant push to the economy, and welcomed the timing of the announcement during the festive season by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
