MANDREM: A major fire broke out at a cashew plantation in Naik Wada, Mandrem, on Monday, causing extensive damage and resulting in an estimated financial loss of ₹20 lakh.
The blaze, which erupted in the early hours, quickly spread across the plantation, destroying a vast number of cashew trees and damaging infrastructure on the property. Firefighters were rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control after several hours of intense effort.
Officials said the cause of the fire is currently unknown. “We are investigating the incident to determine whether it was caused by negligence or deliberate action,” said a fire department spokesperson. No injuries have been reported.
Local authorities are conducting a detailed assessment of the damage. Meanwhile, the plantation owners and workers are reeling from the sudden loss, as the incident occurred during a peak period in the cashew harvesting season.
