Panaji: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has hit out at the Goa government over the mismanaged recruitment process at the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Campal, where more than 4,000 candidates turned up for just 200 contractual staff nurse posts. The overwhelming response has highlighted the deepening unemployment crisis in the state, with AAP accusing the government of failing to plan the process efficiently or provide basic facilities for the applicants.
AAP Goa President Adv. Amit Palekar stated that the scene at DHS was chaotic and disorganised, with no proper instructions or infrastructure in place. “Had there been an online registration system, or a taluka-wise schedule, such a crowd could have been avoided. It is impossible to carry out a fair and transparent selection in a single day with such a huge number of candidates,” he said. He also emphasised that the aspirants were not mere jobseekers, but the future backbone of Goa’s healthcare system, and deserved respect and dignity.
Several candidates, including those who had travelled from distant talukas like Canacona and Pernem, were seen waiting in long queues from early morning, without access to drinking water or shelter. In a humanitarian gesture, AAP volunteers reached the spot to distribute water and juice to the candidates and offered moral support, listening to their grievances.
AAP leader Shri Krishna Parab said that the entire situation reflects the government’s poor planning and insensitivity. “Recruitment must be conducted in a humane and organised manner. Our youth deserve better,” he said. The party has called on the government to adopt digital and decentralised methods to ensure transparency, fairness, and comfort for applicants in future drives.
With the state facing growing unemployment, the chaos at the DHS recruitment has raised serious questions about how recruitment is being handled and what steps the government is taking to address the issue at its root.
