Peddem: The fifth edition of the Masters Table Tennis Champions League (MTTCL 5.0) is poised to deliver an exhilarating display of skill, sportsmanship, and Goan camaraderie at the Rustic Rose Hall, Peddem. Organized by the Peddem Sports Club, the tournament brings together 12 professional teams and 72 veteran players, all selected through a spirited auction held earlier at Hotel Green Park, Peddem. With a prize purse of ₹1 lakh, alongside trophies, special awards, and individual recognitions, MTTCL 5.0 continues to celebrate the competitive spirit and community of Goa’s table tennis enthusiasts.
Mayur Sawkar, Organising President and Vice President of the Goa Table Tennis Association, highlighted the league’s broader impact: “MTTCL has grown into a movement of fitness, friendship, and passion among our veterans. Beyond competition, many players mentor youngsters, organize inter-school events, and support grassroots development. The enthusiasm of our veterans motivates us to expand similar initiatives for the younger generation.”
This year, the league welcomes Team Desserts & More Avengers, owned by industrialist and sports promoter Sagar Salgaonkar, adding to the tournament’s prestige. Yogish Dempo, owner of Dempo Royals, emphasized the league’s spirit, saying, “MTTCL unites experience, energy, and excellence. It celebrates veterans while connecting generations.” Veteran player Noel Noronha, captain of UK Ultra and former state No. 1 for 17 years, described the league as “a Goan festival of table tennis, combining fun, rivalry, and respect with the unique local spirit.”
The 12 participating teams include Dempo Royals, Desserts & More Avengers, Diya Enterprises, Tuff Security, Vicky 10, UK Ultra, Suzuki BN Thakur, Saxtti Sports and Cultural Club, Burye Enterprises, S.S. Caterers, M&S Titans, and Royal Ruby. Each team brings a blend of seasoned talent and competitive fire, with notable captains like Sachin Soares, Amit Naik, Clyde Barreto, Joseph Sequeira, Satish Agrahar, Noel Noronha, Sandeep D’Mello, Deepak Gopani, Arun Naik, Shawn Soares, Bonny D’Costa, and Niraj Kannure.
Scheduled for Sunday, October 26, at the Multipurpose Stadium in Peddem, MTTCL 5.0 promises intense matches, community engagement, and a vibrant celebration of Goa’s rich table tennis culture. Supported by the Goa Table Tennis Association, the league continues to shine as one of the state’s most glamorous sporting events.
