CANACONA: Agitated over erratic water supply for the past eight months and a complete stoppage for the last four days, residents of Mastimoll, along with ward councillor Pandurang (Dhiraj) Naik Gaunkar, met PWD Water Supply officials on Thursday seeking immediate intervention.
Residents said that until eight months ago, their locality received uninterrupted water supply. “We earlier got around 24 hours of supply. Now we barely get half an hour to one hour of water, sometimes just two buckets, and that too at unpredictable timings,” a woman from the group told the officials. “For the past four days, we haven’t received a single drop.”
Councillor Naik Gaunkar criticised the department for failing to act despite repeated complaints. “There is no clear answer from PWD. Officers keep passing the responsibility from one to another. If this is not harassment of the public, then what is it?” he said, warning that he would lead a morcha to the PWD Water Supply office if the issue is not resolved within two days.
A Junior Engineer from the PWD acknowledged the issue, attributing it to the elevated location of the area. He said water levels in overhead tanks drop whenever there is a power outage, affecting supply to high-lying localities. He added that the matter has been taken up with senior officials and assured that a solution will be worked out soon.
