MUMBAI: Goa’s Minister for Panchayats, Transport, Industries, Trade & Commerce, Mauvin Godinho, participated in the World Environment Day 2025 celebrations held at the Carter Road Amphitheatre in Bandra, Mumbai, on Thursday. The event was organised by the Bhamla Foundation and marked the launch of the third edition of the impactful TikTikPlastic campaign.
Led by Saher Bhamla, the Bhamla Foundation continues to champion environmental awareness efforts across the country, carrying forward the legacy of its founder, Asif Bhamla. The TikTikPlastic 3.0 campaign, supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), was officially unveiled during the event, which also saw the premiere of two thought-provoking short films, Pyaasa and Earthing, directed by Imtiaz Ali and starring Ajay Devgn and Sharvari Wagh. The films delivered strong messages on water conservation and plastic pollution.
Godinho shared the platform with several senior dignitaries from the Maharashtra government, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Environment Minister Pankaja Gopinath Munde, demonstrating a united political front in tackling environmental challenges.
In his address, Godinho highlighted Goa’s progressive approach to sustainable waste management, with a special mention of the Wealth Out of Waste (WOOW) Plant in Chicalim. “This project is a reflection of what is possible when innovation meets community engagement. The WOOW Plant converts waste into valuable resources and could serve as a replicable model across India,” he said.
The event also provided a platform for dialogue between policymakers, industry leaders, climate activists, and artists. Godinho held discussions with several dignitaries, including industrialist Nadir Godrej, on sustainable industrial practices.
He concluded with a call to action: “Let us all pledge to nurture nature and work together towards a greener, cleaner, and more resilient planet.”
