New Delhi: Australia made four changes for the fourth T20I against India at Carrara Oval in Queensland, with Glenn Maxwell returning to the side after a long absence. India, however, chose to retain the same lineup that featured in the third match in Hobart, leaving Sanju Samson out of the playing XI for a second straight game.
Maxwell, who has produced two memorable T20I centuries against India in the past, last appeared in the format in August during Australia’s tour of South Africa. His return strengthens Australia’s middle order and brings additional all round ability. Adam Zampa, Josh Philippe and Ben Dwarshuis also came back into the team as Australia looked to adjust their combination for the penultimate match of the series. Travis Head, Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen and Sean Abbott made way.
India opted for continuity despite the debate surrounding team selection. Samson, who was dropped ahead of the third T20I, did not regain his place with the team management sticking to the same balance that featured in Hobart. The lineup once again included Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill at the top, followed by captain Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jitesh Sharma and Shivam Dube formed the middle and lower order, while Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah handled the bowling duties.
Australia took the field under the leadership of Mitchell Marsh, with Matthew Short and Josh Inglis at the top of the order. Tim David, Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett rounded out key roles, supported by Nathan Ellis and leg spinner Zampa.
The fourth T20I is seen as crucial for both teams as they look to fine tune their combinations ahead of upcoming international commitments. Maxwell’s comeback adds a spark to the contest, while India’s unchanged side signals confidence in their current setup.
