MAYEM: Locals of the Gavkarwada Mayem Gram Panchayat area again blocked the ore transportation from the village this morning, citing various issues they faced.
Speaking to the media, the locals said, “We have stopped traffic again today as there was no solution to our problems in the meeting held with Deputy Collector.”
They said the meeting had not discussed anything about the Mayem route being used to transport ore, but the ore trucks were seen today. “Hence we have stopped the traffic,” locals said.
Last week, the Gavkarwada Mayem Gram Panchayat decided not to transport mining trucks from their village until the roads were repaired and the water supply work completed.
During the incident, Gavkarwada Sarpanch Seema Arondekar was detained by the police to support the villagers.
“The trucks go on from our village damaging the water pipeline blow the road, and this is common phenomenon,” the villagers said
Soon after the incident, the Deputy Collector reached the spot and tried to settle the matter. Several villagers were arrested this morning and were handed over to the Deputy Collector.
The villagers said if the administration failed to take to repair the roads, the protest would intensify.
