PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has reverted it’s decision to make flower vendors to sell their products sitting outside CCP market after the protest by GPMCC President Pratima Coutinho and market association.
However, Mayor Uday Madkaikar claims that Pratima would be responsible, if there’s any mishap.
“Considering the rising cases of Covid 19 in the city the CCP and myself took a decision to designate areas for various types of vendors (Flower, Matoli etc.) in the vicinity outside the Panjim market complex to avoid people crowding inside, making safety and convenience of people visiting to buy essentials for the festival a priority.”
He said, “With the new arrangements set to begin from tomorrow, we had Adv. Pratima Coutinho creating a ruckus yesterday, making false allegations and misleading the flower and vegetable vendors along with the public by instigating vendors and the association to deny this arrangement and continue selling from inside the complex.”
This arrangement was done to safeguard the vendors and the people of the city of Panjim.
Due to this situation we are forced to allow the vendors continue selling from inside the complex, but I wish to announce that if anything goes wrong then Adv. Pratima Coutinho and the Market association is to be blamed for the same, since the CCP had already put safety and preventive measures in place which are now not being followed.
Meanwhile, the mayor has warned the association members that if crowding happens in the market complex, in interest of the people of Panaji and their safety, CCP will have to close the market until decided further.
