PANAJI: MCC Knights earned a well-deserved 5-wicket win against MCC Thunder in their MCL 11 T20 encounter at the MCC Ground in Margao. Chasing a target of 167, the Knights displayed discipline and steady intent to cross the finish line in 19.3 overs.
Batting first, MCC Thunder posted 166 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was shaped by key contributions from Dr Pawan Rane, who struck 39 off 23 balls, along with 29 runs each from Dr Rohan Badve and Ved Mahambre. Their efforts kept the scoreboard moving despite regular breakthroughs from the Knights.
Shaunit Sawardekar led the bowling performance for the Knights with an effective spell of 2 for 23. Kapil D S Borker, Vipul Kalekar and Vinay Sambari supported by picking up a wicket apiece, helping restrict Thunder from accelerating further in the closing overs.
In response, the Knights built their chase on a series of composed partnerships. Ameet Kakode set the tone early with a brisk 36 off 21 balls, providing the momentum required for a successful pursuit. Kapil D S Borker added a valuable 32, keeping the innings steady in the middle phase.
The chase was completed by a calm and unbeaten knock of 35 from Pranav Biche, who ensured there were no late stumbles as the Knights sealed the match comfortably. His composed effort earned him the Man of the Match award.
The result marks a strong performance from the Knights, powered by collective contributions both with the ball and bat, reaffirming their consistency in the competition.
