New Delhi: The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa hosted the tenth edition of its flagship inter higher secondary media festival, MediaScope 10.0, bringing together budding media enthusiasts from ten institutions across Goa. The day long event, held in January, served as a vibrant platform for students to demonstrate their creativity, technical skills and collaborative spirit.
The festival began with an inaugural ceremony attended by Administrator Rev. Fr. Antonio Salema and Principal Ms. Ursula Barreto. Addressing the gathering, Rev. Fr. Salema encouraged students to cultivate gratitude and mindfulness in their academic and personal pursuits. Ms. Barreto highlighted the importance of innovation and urged participants to explore the wide ranging opportunities available in the media and communication industry.
The keynote address was delivered by filmmaker, director and editor Vardhan Dhaimodkar, an alumnus of the college. He spoke about the fast changing landscape of media and cinema, emphasising the need for young aspirants to adapt, innovate and believe in their creative potential. A key moment during the inauguration was the unveiling of the newly designed MediaScope trophy.
MediaScope 10.0 featured a variety of competitions conducted simultaneously across the campus, including Quiz, Amazing Race, Mad Ad, LollyWood, Spotlight, Photography, Reel making, Canvas Painting and Dance. The events were designed to test participants’ imagination, analytical thinking, teamwork and technical expertise. The dance competition stood out for its energy and enthusiastic audience response.
Sharada Mandir Higher Secondary School claimed the overall championship title, while Navy School Higher Secondary School secured second place. St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School finished third. Coordinated by Mr. Dinesh Nirawdekar and Ms. Jonquil Sudhir, the festival once again reinforced its reputation as a dynamic forum for nurturing emerging media talent in the state.
