Independent candidate Merciana Vas, wife of Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, received tremendous support from residents across several areas of Cansaulim during her door-to-door campaign on Saturday. The campaign witnessed a warm and enthusiastic response, with people turning up in large numbers to interact with her and express confidence in her leadership and development-oriented approach.
Vas campaigned extensively across Cansaulim carrying her election symbol and was accompanied by panch members and the Sarpanch of Cansaulim panchayat. The presence of local panchayat representatives added strength to the campaign, reflecting grassroots-level support for her candidature. Residents welcomed her warmly, held discussions on local issues and acknowledged the development initiatives undertaken in the constituency in recent years.
Speaking to residents during the campaign, Merciana Vas said she was deeply encouraged by the trust and affection shown by the people. “The love and confidence people have placed in me is my biggest strength. In just three years after my victory in the by-election, we have focused on delivering visible development, addressing long-pending civic issues and ensuring that government schemes reach the last person,” she said.
Several residents praised her proactive style of functioning and swift execution of development works. A local resident said that basic infrastructure issues such as roads, drainage and public amenities were taken up promptly. “We saw work happening on the ground within a short time. That is why people are standing firmly with her,” the resident said.
Another supporter said Merciana Vas remained accessible to the people and responsive to their concerns. “Whenever we approached her with problems, she ensured quick follow-up. That is rare in politics today,” the supporter remarked.
The campaign reflected strong public backing for Vas, with many residents assuring her of their support and appreciating her commitment to inclusive development and people-centric governance.
