PANAJI: Even as the Mhadei issue still continues to haunt the successive State governments for decades now, the Goa exchequer has incurred a cost of nearly Rs 15 crores only on advocates and consultants so far.
As per replies given by the government, nearly rupees 9.47 cr was spent only on advocates’ professional fees, accommodation and travelling.
Former Assistant Solicitor General of India Atmaram Nadkarni was paid the highest fee of Rs 6,38,82,154.00;
Pratap Venugopal, Ld. Advocate of Record, New Delhi, was paid Rs 1515000; Dattaprasad Lawande was paid 1,09,34,107; i. Salvador Santosh Rebello was paid 53,50,891, Pankaj Vernekar was paid Rs 42,33,773.
The Goa Advocate General Devidas Pangam has been paid only Rs 1,48,352.
The State government has also appointed consultants to fight its case in Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal as well as the Supreme Court.
