Cuncolim: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the Mhaje Ghar scheme, stating that it aims to benefit all Goans, regardless of caste or creed.
He emphasised that the scheme is designed for one-time regularisation of houses built on government and comunidade land before February 28, 2014, despite objections raised by certain groups.
Launching the scheme at Cuncolim on Wednesday, the Chief Minister clarified that the initiative’s core objective is to provide legal status to long-standing homes across Goa.
“We are aware of attempts to challenge the scheme, but the government will proceed as planned,” he said.
Sawant announced that special camps will soon be organised across all panchayat and municipal areas to help residents obtain residence certificates required to apply under the scheme.
“These camps will issue on-the-spot residence certificates for houses existing before 2014,” he added.
In a move to improve efficiency, the Chief Minister also declared that the process for issuing house repair and bifurcation certificates will be streamlined. Citizens can now expect a house repair certificate within three days and a bifurcation certificate within seven days of application.
“For a house repair certificate, applicants will need to submit a house tax receipt, cost estimate, and a certificate from an engineer. No panch or councillor will be able to delay or obstruct the process,” Sawant assured.
Explaining the significance of the house separation certificate, he said it would help family members residing in the same home to apply for separate connections for water, electricity, and sanitation. “This measure will reduce family disputes and promote harmony,” the Chief Minister said.
With the Mhaje Ghar scheme, the CM said that the government hopes to bring relief to thousands of Goan families seeking ownership rights and improved ease of living through faster administrative processes.
