Min Kamat Felicitated by GSA for World Aquatics Appointment

MARGAO: The Goa Swimming Association (GSA) felicitated Shri Digambar Kamat, Minister and MLA of Margao, at a function held at Orzo, Navelim, to mark his election as Bureau Member of World Aquatics 2025. Kamat will represent the Asian continent for the 2025–2029 term, a recognition hailed as a proud moment for Goa and India.
GSA President Yogiraj Kamat welcomed dignitaries and underlined the association’s commitment to nurturing swimming talent in the state. The compere traced Kamat’s long career in sports administration, including his leadership roles in badminton and aquatics, and highlighted his Bakshi Bahadur Jivabadada Kerkar State Award in 1994.
Chief Guest Monal Choksey, Secretary General of the Swimming Federation of India, praised Kamat’s administrative acumen and said his elevation to World Aquatics would strengthen India’s presence in the global sporting arena.
Alongside Kamat, swimmers from Goa who excelled at various competitions and coaches in swimming and diving were also honoured. Guests on the dais included Avadhut Timble, Gurudutta Bhakta, Caitano Fernandes, Anil Madgaonkar and Albert Colaco.
The function concluded with mementos being presented to the guests and a vote of thanks by GSA Secretary Sudesh Nagvenkar, marking the evening as a milestone in Goa’s sporting journey.
