PORVORIM: In a major boost to sustainable public transport, Minister for Tourism, IT, E&C and Printing & Stationery and MLA of Porvorim, Rohan A. Khaunte, flagged off two new electric buses of Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd. (KTCL) connecting Mapusa Bus Stand and Panaji Bus Stand.
The launch ceremony was held at Art Park, Porvorim, in the presence of ZP Kavita Gupesh Naik, Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Sarpanch Sonia Sanjay Pednekar, and panchayat members of Socorro, Penha de Franca, and Salvador do Mundo.
Khaunte said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable solutions.
“The introduction of electric buses on this crucial route not only reduces congestion and travel time but also aligns with our vision of creating a cleaner and greener Goa. This initiative also complements our Regenerative Tourism approach by prioritizing community well-being and environmentally responsible development,” he stated.
The buses will cover a key route passing through Paliem, Socorro, Ambirna, Torda, Porvorim Old Market, and Sanjay School before terminating at Panaji Bus Stand. Services will operate twice daily, with departures scheduled at 7:30 am, 10:00 am, 4:30 pm, and 6:30 pm from both Mapusa and Panaji.
The service is expected to benefit daily commuters, students, and professionals while setting a benchmark for eco-friendly public transport in Goa.
