Berlin: Goa and its tourism leadership received global recognition at the PATWA International Travel Awards 2026 held on the sidelines of ITB Berlin, one of the world’s leading travel trade exhibitions.
Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte was conferred the “Tourism Minister of the Year – Innovation (Asia)” award by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association in recognition of his leadership and initiatives aimed at transforming Goa’s tourism landscape.
Accepting the award, Khaunte said the recognition belonged to the people of Goa. “Tourism in Goa is not just about destinations, it is about our communities, culture and environment. Our vision is to build a tourism model that is regenerative, inclusive and sustainable while ensuring that tourism benefits every Goan,” he stated.
Goa was also honoured with the “Destination of the Year – Rejuvenation” award, acknowledging the state’s efforts to reposition itself through sustainable, regenerative and experience-driven tourism.
Under the “Goa Beyond Beaches” vision, the state has focused on promoting hinterland and spiritual tourism circuits, empowering local communities and women-led homestays, developing culture-driven festivals and experiential tourism, strengthening international connectivity and promoting responsible tourism practices.
The recognition at ITB Berlin 2026 further reinforces Goa’s position as a dynamic and forward-looking global tourism destination.
