Panaji: In a significant boost to Goa’s economy, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has announced that nine mineral blocks are set to commence operations soon. This development follows a joint meeting between the Union Ministry of Mines and the Government of Goa, chaired by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy.
The meeting, held in Goa, focused on strategies to revive non-operational mines and explore new mining opportunities.
The revival of mining activities is expected to enhance the state’s contribution to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), bolstering its economic growth.
Chief Minister Sawant expressed gratitude to the Union Government for its continued support in reviving the mining sector.
The discussions centred around auction plans for potential mining blocks, the status of operationalizing auctioned mining blocks, and ongoing exploration projects.
Notably, two to three blocks are currently stalled due to pending permissions from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), but Union Minister Reddy has assured assistance to expedite these processes.
All blocks are expected to become operational this year, marking a significant milestone in the sector’s revival.
