VASCO: Minister Mauvin Godinho announced ambitious plans for the second phase of the Vaddem Lake beautification project and the enhancement of the New Vaddem area on Wednesday.
The announcement came during the inauguration of a 200 KV distribution transformer at New Vaddem, attended by Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker, and other officials.
Godinho shared details of a recent meeting with Urban Development and Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane to address issues within the MMC jurisdiction.
“It was a very fruitful meeting, and the most important outcome is that a file has been submitted to the DMA to regularize temporary staff who have been working for over five years,” said Godinho
Elaborating on the Vaddem Lake project, Godinho said that plans to take up the phase two of the Beautified Vaddem Lake project were also discussed
“We will work towards phase two of the beautified Vaddem Lake, focusing on ensuring proper water flow to prevent fish deaths during summer. This phase will also include beautification, illumination, and the installation of a high mast lamp.” Said Godinho
Regarding New Vaddem, Godinho outlined plans under the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA).
“We will construct a new modern toilet block at the last bus stop after demolishing an old structure intended for a police outpost. The existing dilapidated toilets will be replaced with a garden featuring a facade to create a welcoming atmosphere as one enters New Vaddem, especially after the completion of the new railway overbridge,” he explained. “Additionally, we will establish a new police outpost in this beautified area.”
Addressing healthcare improvements, Godinho mentioned the Chicalim sub-district hospital, stating,
“The Health Minister has requested time to discuss with the Chief Minister about a new staffing pattern to provide specialist doctors at the Sub District Hospital. These initiatives aim to enhance the infrastructure and living conditions in New Vaddem, reflecting the government’s commitment to development and public welfare ” added Godinho.
