Panaji: Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities of Goa, Subhash Phal Dessai, and State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Guruprasad Pawaskar currently in Paris to witness the Paralympics 2024 met with Indian para-athlete Manisha Ramadass.
Ramadass made a significant mark at the Paris Paralympics 2024 by winning a bronze medal in the women’s singles SU5 category in para-badminton. She secured a dominant victory over Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren with scores of 21-12, 21-8. This achievement is particularly notable as it makes her the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic medal in badminton.
The brief meeting with Minister, Subhash Phal Dessai, and State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Guruprasad Pawaskar highlights the support and recognition she has received from various dignitaries, further emphasizing her impact and the pride she brings to her community.
Minister of Social Welfare of Goa, Subhash Phal Dessai said: “It was a wonderful opportunity to meet Manisha and watch her play with such ease and determination. Being here in Paris to cheer our Indian para-athletes and witness the pinnacle of para-sports has been nothing short of inspiring and a means for us to bring back lessons for Goa.”
Also present for the interaction were Sudesh Thakur, Secretary Goa Paralympic Association, Jayawant G. H., General Secretary of, the Paralympic Committee of India, Thulasimathi Murugesan, Silver Medalist, Devendra Jajjaria, President, Paralympic Committee of India.
Manisha’s journey to this milestone has been inspiring. She hails from Tamil Nadu and has been supported by Olympic Gold Quest. Her rise in the sport has been rapid since her international debut in 2022, where she quickly became the world number one in her category. Her dedication and skill have earned her numerous titles and accolades, including the BWF Female Para-Badminton Player of the Year in 2022.
