PANAJI: In a significant breakthrough, the Goa Police have successfully rescued a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped from a child care facility in North Goa earlier this year.
The girl was traced and recovered from Delhi on April 21, nearly three months after she went missing.
According to police sources, the incident took place on the evening of January 30, 2025, when two minor girls—aged 13 and 15—were reportedly abducted from the Navjyoti Rehabilitation Centre, a child care and protection home located at Faj Colony, Madel Thivim, Bardez.
The facility had admitted the girls under the direction of the Child Welfare Committee, North Goa.
The In-charge of the centre, Ms. Yogini Lopes, filed a formal complaint at Colvale Police Station on January 31.
A case was registered under Colvale PS Crime No. 12/2025 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 8 of the Goa Children Act.
Following the registration of the case, a special team was formed to investigate the matter. Leveraging mobile surveillance and human intelligence inputs, the police team was able to track down one of the missing girls to Delhi.
The rescue operation was executed by a team led by PI Vijay Rane and PSI Dattaraj Rane, along with PC Gauresh Shetye, LPC Shamal Chari, and LPC Anita Sakhalkar of the Colvale Police Station.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of SDPO Mapusa Shri Ashish Shirodkar and overall supervision of SP (North) Shri Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
Efforts are ongoing to trace and rescue the second minor girl. Further investigation into the case is underway.
