SANKHALI: In a shocking case of reckless driving, Bicholim Police have apprehended a 17-year-old boy for causing a hit-and-run accident at Gokulwadi, Sankhali on June 19, 2025. The incident occurred at around 8:15 PM near Raju Kamat’s House Junction, when the minor, driving a Hyundai Creta without a valid license, crashed into a motorcycle, injuring the rider.
The minor, a resident of Surla, Sattari, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and was permitted to drive by Jayesh Gawas (owner of the car), along with Sahil Gawas and Atul Gaonkar, all of whom were in the car during the accident. The trio, aware that the juvenile lacked a driving license, allegedly encouraged him to drive on a major highway, posing serious danger to public safety.
The victim, 30-year-old Pranesh s/o Prakash Malik from Kudnem, Navelim, suffered injuries after his Hero Splendor bike was struck by the Creta. The car occupants allegedly fled the scene without offering assistance or reporting the incident to police.
Police have booked the case under Bicholim PS Crime No. 75/2025 u/s 281, 125, 125(a) r/w 46 BNS and 3 & 4 r/w 180, 185, 134(a), (b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Jayesh, Sahil, and Atul were arrested and later released on bail. The minor, classified as a Child in Conflict with Law, has been produced before the Principal Magistrate, Juvenile Justice Board, Apna Ghar, Merces-Goa.
