CURCHOREM: Residents of Mirabag and Savarde have said they will continue their agitation until they receive a written assurance from authorities, even as the Water Resources Department (WRD) has promised to fill the excavated pits at the site by Monday.
Villagers have been protesting for the past several days, opposing the ongoing works in the area and demanding that the excavation be closed and the land restored. According to protestors, WRD officials assured them that the pits created during the work would be filled by Monday. However, residents said they were unwilling to rely on verbal assurances alone and insisted on a written commitment.
As part of the agitation, locals took out a morcha to the WRD office, raising slogans and pressing for immediate action. Protesters said they would not withdraw until their demands were formally accepted and implemented.
Residents also alleged that earlier instructions from authorities had not been followed, which had deepened mistrust among villagers. They claimed that despite directions from senior officials, the work had continued, leading to resentment in the area.
The protest, which began as a local agitation, has drawn participation from a large number of villagers who say the excavation has affected their surroundings and daily lives. Many expressed concern that without proper restoration, the site would continue to pose problems for the community.
Villagers reiterated that while the assurance to fill the pits by Monday was a positive step, they would only consider ending the agitation after receiving written confirmation and seeing actual work on the ground.
Protesters warned that the agitation would be intensified if the promised work was not completed within the stated time.
